A sede metropolitana titular da Capadócia. Procópio (De ædif., V, iv) nos informa que este local fortificado, no noroeste da Capadócia, foi constituído metrópole da Capadócia Tertia por Justiniano, quando ele dividiu essa província em três partes. O imperador deu-lhe o nome de Justinianopolis. Nada se sabe sobre sua história, e seu nome deveria talvez ser escrito Mocessus. Não há dúvida de que o local de Mocissus, ou Mocessus, é aquele ocupado pela moderna cidade de Kir-Sheir, a cidade principal de um sanjac no vilayet de Ancara, que possui 8.000 habitantes, a maioria deles muçulmanos. Nas proximidades de Kir-Sheir há algumas importantes ruínas antigas. Esta metrópole figura nas "Notitiæ episcopatuum" até o século XII ou XIII. Apenas alguns de seus titulares são conhecidos: o mais antigo, Pedro, participou do Concílio de Constantinopla (536); o último, cujo nome não é conhecido, era católico e foi consagrado após o Concílio de Florença pelo patriarca Metrofânes de Constantinopla.
A titular metropolitan see of Cappadocia. The emperor gave it the name of Justinianopolis. Nothing is known of its history, and its name should perhaps be written Mocessus. There is no doubt that the site of Mocissus, or Mocessus, is that occupied by the modern town of Kir-Sheir, chief town of a sanjak in the vilayet of Angora, which possesses 8000 inhabitants, most of them Mussulmans. In the neighbourhood of Kir-Sheir there are some important ancient ruins. This metropolis figures in the "Notitiæ episcopatuum" until the twelfth or thirteenth century. Only a few of its titulars are known: the earliest, Peter, attended the Council of Constantinople (536); the last, whose name is not known, was a Catholic, and was consecrated after the Council of Florence by Patriarch Metrophanes of Constantinople.
