Nascido em 12 de novembro de 1830, em Münster, Vestfália; faleceu em Innsbruck, em 25 de novembro de 1885. Em 1850, ingressou no Colégio Alemão em Roma e foi ordenado sacerdote em 1855. Após isso, juntou-se à Companhia de Jesus e, já em 1858, mesmo antes do término de seu noviciado, foi escolhido para ocupar a cadeira de elocução na reestabelecida faculdade de teologia em Innsbruck. Frau" (2ª ed., ibid., 1879); "Das Gemüt und das Gefühlsvermögen der neueren Psychologie" (2ª ed., ibid., 1885); "Die Andacht zum hl. Herzen Jesu und die Bedenken gegen dieselbe" (2ª ed., ibid., 1885); "Theorie der geistlichen Beredskamkeit" (2 vols., 3ª ed., Innsbruck, 1886); "Aesthetik" (2 vols., 3ª ed., 1886). Uma terceira edição de sua "Beredsamkeit" foi publicada por seu colega, Michael Gatterer, que também editou uma quarta edição muito abreviada. Jungmann teve uma influência maravilhosa sobre seus alunos. Speaking of him, one of them writes: "I do not know what it was that always charmed the other students so much, but, for myself, I felt irresistibly drawn to him on account of his high sentiments and character, founded on deeply rooted principles, influenced by such alone, and therefore immovable. These sentiments distinguished him at every turn — in his studies, in his social intercourse, in his daily avocations, and in his religious exercises."
