Sir Arthur, membro de uma antiga e nobre família cavaleiresca, competente oficial militar no exército de Carlos I, governador de Oxford pelo rei, e nomeado governador de Drogheda (Irlanda) em 1649. Foi morto em 10 de setembro de 1649, no cerco dessa cidade pelas forças de Oliver Cromwell; tiveram os miolos esmagados com sua perna de madeira durante o massacre que se seguiu à captura (D. Murphy, Cromwell in Ireland, Dublin, 1897, p. 99).
Sir Arthur, member of an ancient and knightly family, an able military officer in the army of Charles I, governor of Oxford for the king, and made governor of Drogheda (Ireland) in 1649. He was killed September 10, 1640, at the siege of that town by the forces of Oliver Cromwell; his brains were dashed out with his wooden leg during the massacre that followed the capture (D. Murphy, Cromwell in Ireland, Dublin, 1897, p. 99).
Herbert, poeta inglês, nascido em Chelsea, 1614, terceiro filho de Walter, primeiro Lord Aston de Forfar, a quem acompanhou a Madri em sua segunda embaixada em 1635, autor de "Tixall Poetry, Coletada pelo Hon. Herbert, an English poet, born at Chelsea, 1614, third son of Walter, first Lord Aston of Forfar, whom he accompanied to Madrid on his second embassy in 1635, author of "Tixall Poetry, Collected by the Hon. Herbert Aston, 1658" (ed. with notes and illustrations by Arthur Clifford, Esq., Edinburgh, 1813, 4to).
Walter, pai do precedente e filho de Sir Edward Aston, de Tixall em Staffordshire, educado sob a direção de Sir Edward Coke, foi enviado como um dos dois embaixadores à Espanha (1619) para negociar um tratado de casamento entre Carlos (I), Príncipe de Gales, e a Infanta, filha de Filipe III. Tornou-se converso à Fé Católica nessa ocasião, e ao retornar à Inglaterra foi feito Senhor de Forfar (Escócia). Possuía um gosto acentuado pela literatura e foi patrono de Drayton, que lhe dedicou (1598) seu "Black Prince", e em seu "Polyolbion" elogia a "antiga sede" dos Aston em Tixall.
Walter, father of the preceding and son of Sir Edward Aston, of Tixall in Staffordshire, educated under the direction of Sir Edward Coke, sent as one of the two ambassadors to Spain (1619) to negotiate a marriage treaty between Charles (I), Prince of Wales, and the Infanta, daughter of Philip 111. He became a convert to the Catholic Faith on this occasion, and on his return to England was made Lord of Forfar (Scotland). He had a decided taste for literature, and was the patron of Drayton, who dedicated to him (1598) his "Black Prince", and in his "Polyolbion" praises the Aston's "ancient seat" of Tixall.
William, nascido em 22 de abril de 1735, foi educado em St.-Omer, entrou na Companhia de Jesus em 1761 e ensinou durante vários anos nos colégios da Sociedade em St.-Omer, Watten e Bruges, até a supressão em 1773; faleceu em Liège, em 15 de março de 1800, como cônego da catedral. William, born April 22, 1735, educated at St.-Omer, entered the Society of Jesus in 1761, and taught for several years in the Society's colleges of St.-Omer, Watten, and Bruges, until the suppression in 1773; died at Liège, March 15, 1800, as canon of the cathedral. Among his writings are "Letters Ultramontaines" and "Le Cosmopolite."
